Have you ever thought of having a staycation?
You probably have a couple great vacations already planned this summer, but there are plenty of great places right here in Dallas-Fort Worth to help you feel like you’re on a mini vacation while not having to travel too far from home.
Possum Kingdom State Park
If you’re craving an outdoor adventure, why not camp at the beautiful reservoir located just an hour west from the DFW metroplex? You can camp the old-fashioned way with tents or enjoy staying in an air-conditioned cabin or even The Cliffs Resort if you really want to be fancy. You can take your boat out on Possum Kingdom Lake, snorkel, scuba dive, hike, bike and rent equipment like wakeboards, tubes and water skis. There is also great fishing – you can catch striped and white bass, channel and blue catfish and white crappie. The best part is you don’t even need a fishing license to fish from the shore of a state park!
Want to know something cool? Possum Kingdom Lake is where they are hosting the Red Bull Cliff Diving Event today through June 3 that we are catering! Those divers are definitely going to be hungry after all the action!
If you want a more posh experience, book a night or two in The Joule boutique hotel in downtown Dallas. This luxury spot is a favorite, especially among celebrities who visit the area. It’s a revitalized 1920’s Neo-Gothic building that is absolutely beautiful on the inside and out!
Enjoy a world-class spa visit while you’re there, or shop at the trendy boutiques, eat award-winning artisan food and sip on craft cocktails, beers and eclectic wine. The hotel is adjacent to the Dallas Arts District so you can go appreciate beautiful artwork nearby and even visit the Neiman Marcus flagship store that’s right there.
If you want to treat yourself to some serious R & R, this resort in Carollton is totally worth the visit! It’s not your typical spa experience that’s for sure! Spa Castle offers a huge variety of saunas to sweat out toxins, including LED suanas and Himalayan Salt suanas and much more. You can also enjoy amazing massages, facials and swim-up bars.
Want New York vibes this summer? Nylo is a boutique hotel with modern loft-style rooms with exposed brick and a trendy, artistic SoHo feel. It’s located on Dallas South Side and is next to some great spots including the Alamo Draft House, Dallas Arts District, Gilley’s and South Side Music Hall and the Dallas Farmer’s Market (my personal favorite). While you’re staying here, you can enjoy their popular SODA bar overlooking the infinity pool and entire Dallas skyline. They also have a bistro with healthy and indulgent eating options. What’s not to like?
If you get tired of the hustle and bustle of the city, head to this historic small town. Granbury has over 28 designated historic structures to see and you can visit several wineries and cheese-makers while you’re there. Visiting the town square will take you back to the “good ‘ole days” where life is more simple. They hold several annual festivals and live performances so make sure to check out the schedule ahead of time. The Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is also nearby, so if you’re an animal lover you can see endangered species in this drive-through “safari.”
Dallas World Aquarium
This aquarium is located less than a mile away from The Joule and from the moment you walk in you feel like you’re somewhere tropical! Plus, it’s a nice escape from the heat! There are thousands of species that live on the Texas coastline and you get to see a lot of them here including the fascinating Harlequin Shrimp, Weedy Seadragon and Banggai Cardinalfish to name a few. Spend the afternoon here walking around and then head to your hotel for some food and relaxation!
This staycation is a great day trip and is located about an hour away from Fort Worth in Parker, TX. This ranch was made famous by the Ewing family in the TV series Dallas and is known as the “World’s Most Famous Ranch.” This ranch offers you a serene trip to the country side and activities as well as guided tours of the Famous Ewing Mansion. A day on the ranch can include a two-hour horse education and riding lesson, an hour-long trail riding experience and more. There are also concerts and events here and you can even host a catered breakfast lunch or dinner here.
